Subjects

Depending on the faculty, level of change required or type of change, the process for dealing with new subjects and subject changes varies.

The Institute for Interactive Media and Learning offers advice and assistance in the design of subjects.

The formal approval of subjects by the University provides assurance of the design, assessment and academic content of the component parts of each course. Academic Board has delegated the authority to approve subjects and most changes to subjects to Faculty Boards (with the exception of changes to FOE and funding clusters). Each Faculty has its own faculty approval process which should be followed for the approval of new subjects and changes to existing subjects.

Faculties are required to undertake a change impact analysis before final sign-off of any changes to subjects and should complete the change impact analysis form.

Outlined below are the general steps required to create or amend a subject (PDF 98 kB, print on A3). Details on the individual components of this flowchart are available from the left navigation menu.
