Reaccreditation

Course accreditation is for the length of the course (full-time equivalent) plus two years, or for a period of five years, whichever is the greater. The accreditation period usually start from either 1 January (for courses that are reaccredited) or 1 July (for new courses or changes to courses). Where a course is part of a set of interlinked courses (which must be submitted for reaccreditation at the same time), each component course is accredited for the same period as the longest course in the set. Faculties are encouraged to request a period of accreditation which enables them to submit for internal and external professional reaccreditation at the same time.

Reaccreditation process

For a course to continue being offered, a faculty must ensure that it is reaccredited prior to the expiry of its accreditation period.

The information required for reaccreditation focuses on strategic fit, relevance, projected demand, any new commercial arrangements and any other proposed changes, rather than on past course performance.

Results from the annual course performance report cycle are incorporated into the reaccreditation process. Faculties must provide the latest CPR rating and details of strategic responses to the CPR data in the reaccreditation template.

Outlined in the flowchart below are the general steps required for course reaccreditation. Refer to the Award Course Approval and Reaccreditation Policy and Procedures for detailed information.

Specific reaccreditation requirements are as follows:

  • Onshore courses: faculties must complete a reaccreditation template for all onshore courses performing satisfactorily. For courses that are 'of concern', faculties must complete the reaccreditation template and provide the latest UTS Course Performance Report (CPR) rating together with strategic responses to the CPR data.
  • Offshore courses: the APO provides advice on the approval requirements on a case-by-case basis. Faculties may be required to complete the full approval process for reaccreditation of offshore courses, i.e. the same process as for new courses.

Planning for reaccreditation

By November of each year, the APO publishes the CASS report of courses due for reaccreditation during the following year. The APO can assist faculties to plan workable reaccreditation schedules linked to the University's committee dates. To ensure courses are reaccredited within the required timeframes, the following submission dates have been set:

  • For courses that have received an extension of accreditation from the previous year, reaccreditation documentation must reach the APO by 30 June of the following year.
  • For courses that are legitimately due for reaccreditation, reaccreditation documentation must reach the APO by 31 July of the relevant year.

Reaccreditation template request

To start the process of reaccrediting a course or set of interlinked courses, faculties must first complete the reaccreditation template.
