Using UTSOnline: Managing Messages
Using the discussion forum options
In the discussion forum there are different options that can assist students and teachers in how they interact with and manage the messages.
This online video animation shows you how to add, modify and manage forums on the discussion board.
Optional rating, grading and tracking of student discussion participation
At times you may want to quickly review an individual student's participation in online discussions. The UTSOnline discussion board automatically generates statistics on the number and length of student postings and compiles these statistics in the Performance Dashboard. Optional grading of student postings in a discussion forum and peer rating of discussion messages can also be enabled.
This online video animation illustrates how to enable these options.
Optional delayed discussion moderation
By default, when you set up a forum on the discussion board you and your students can immediately post messages and read and reply to messages. In some special instances you may want to delay the appearance of postings until all messages are reviewed and approved by an appointed moderator. For example, you may ask students to post their answers to a case study and delay releasing the posted answers until all students have posted or until the deadline is reached.
This online video animation demonstrates how to set up a discussion forum with this delayed moderation option.
