UTSOnline: Examples of Levels
Level 1
Example 1
The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post documents (lecture notes, Powerpoint slides) in the Subject Documents area
- post announcements
Example 2
The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post an announcement when assignments are due
- post updates to lecture notes (purchased by students from the Co-Op bookshop - still the cheapest way to provide printed materials)
- post links (URLs) to interesting and relevant websites (either in announcements or "Web Links")
- send subject-related emails to students
- post students' marks to the gradebook
- export students' marks from the gradebook to a spreadsheet
I want to use Level 1. What do I need to do now?
Level 2
Example 1
The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post documents (lecture notes, Powerpoint slides) and further updates in the Subject Documents area
- post announcements (assignment dates, interesting supplementary materials)
- add discussion forums so students can talk about their studies outside class times (lecturer doesn’t read the messages)
- send emails to students and tutors
Example 2
The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post weekly announcements about the topic under study and any current resources of interest
- post subject materials (subject outline, tutorial questions) in the Subject Documents area
- provide group areas for students to work on group assignments (for secure exchange and storage of files)
- create quizzes for students to informally test themselves
- post students' marks to the gradebook and export them to a spreadsheet

Example 1
The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post announcements about subject tasks and expectations including administrative matters
- provide an electronic version of the subject outline
- post links to electronic readings (through Library eReserve)
- provide a ‘Please answer my question’ forum on the discussion board (lecturer answers within a time specified at the start of semester)
- provide unmoderated discussion forums to support tutorials
- provide feedback to students using the gradebook

The lecturer uses UTSOnline to:
- post announcements about interesting happening in the faculty or field
- provide electronic links to supplement each week's topic (in Web Links area)
