UTSOnline: Blogs
With the addition of the Blog building block (Campus Pack) within UTSOnline, discussions can occur in a chronological format and additional comments can be made on entries (in contrast to the threaded messages format in Blackboard's Discussion Board). Images, videos and external links can be easily included and multiple files can be attached as links within the blog entry. As well, instructors can set up blogs to operate in different ways - for example, for groups or individuals.
Various guides for learning about these features and how they can be used are available:
A description of the blog, which is also referred to as Journal LX.
This online Instructor guide (HTML) describes the types of blogs (journals) available as well as how they can be created, accessed and used.
This help manual is now also available from within UTSOnline. To view this manual, select the question mark button located in the top right corner of the blog screen.
A PDF (1.7MB) can be downloaded onto the computer desktop and printed. This file includes guides for blogs, wikis, eportfolios and podcasts.
A Graphical Editor is available to both Mac and PC users with many capabilities. To learn your way around this Graphical Editor, hold your cursor over any of the buttons to see a brief description of its function.
You can contact Tanja Golja in IML to discuss ideas relating to the use of blogs for learning (including the design of learning tasks).
