Course Approach

This course is designed differently from most traditional courses. It takes an integrated practice-based approach to encourage you to achieve the course aims through reflecting critically on and improving your own teaching and your students' learning. The course is based around your reflective teaching portfolio - which you will develop progressively throughout the course and will complete with a scholarly teaching and learning project.

The reflective teaching portfolio is the major assessment component in the overall course, and developing it should be an important learning experience. By the end of the course, your portfolio will be a record of your learning throughout the course and will contain evidence that you have achieved the course aims. You can develop most of your portfolio through critically reflecting on and improving your teaching and your students' learning. The portfolio is intended to help you to make connections between the course and your teaching and integrate your learning experiences across different subjects. The scope of your reflective portfolio will depend on whether you are doing the whole course or only part of it. More information about portfolios can be found in the course assessment section of the GradCertHEd.
