Teaching & Learning Experiences

Teaching and learning experiences

The course is designed to encourage you to participate in a range of different teaching and learning experiences.

Face to face sessions

Face to face sessions in the course are usually structured as interactive workshops where we engage in a range of activities as a group. Past participants have found this time particularly valuable for discussing and comparing teaching ideas with their colleagues in the course. Pre-reading will be given for some sessions so that the discussion can be more productive.

Self-managed learning packages

A small number of print-based self-managed learning packages will be available, based around videos (mostly the Teaching Matters series), booklets and learning guides with activities. In some subjects, learning packages can be done as alternatives to participating in face-to-face sessions for participants who are unable or prefer not to attend.

If you do subjects using self-managed learning packages you will need to complete the learning activities that they contain and include relevant evidence in your reflective portfolio.

Online learning

We will be using UTSOnline as one way of maintaining ongoing communication and enabling discussion in between face to face sessions. UTSOnline is a web-based computer mediated communication package and can be accessed by most web browsers from inside or outside the university. The UTSOnline site will be in operation from the beginning of the course.

Course announcements will be posted on UTSOnline and you may also use it for discussion with other course participants and staff. Participation in online discussions will be an integral part of the learning experience for some subjects.
